Important Update to HunterSMART™ Google Home and Amazon Alexa Connectivity via App-to-App Linking
Hunter is making an upcoming change to certain legacy smart-home connections with Google Home and Amazon Alexa used by HunterSMART™ fans.
We want to help you understand what is changing, what will continue to work, and what steps you may need to take to make the most of your HunterSMART™ products.
What Is Changing?
Beginning January 1, 2027, Hunter will discontinue the legacy cloud-based connections that currently enable cloud-to-cloud linking between HunterSMART™ app accounts and Google Home and Amazon Alexa.
After this date, Google Home and Alexa functionality that relies on this legacy cloud connection will no longer work for HunterSMART™ fans, including voice commands, scenes, and automations.
Why Is This Changing?
Hunter is transitioning away from its legacy cloud-based smart-home platform as part of its move toward Matter, an industry standard designed to support connectivity across compatible smart-home platforms.
Visit our Matter Compatibility Page to search for your fan and review available options for migrating to Matter.
Matter migration options vary by product and may require a firmware update or updated hardware components.
When Will This Change Happen?
The legacy Google Home and Alexa cloud-based connections and linking via these third-party apps and the HunterSMART™ app will no longer be supported effective January 1, 2027.
We are providing advance notice so affected customers have time to review their available options and complete any applicable setup before the change.
What Does This Mean for My HunterSMART™ Fan Controls?
Your fan's core operation will continue as designed, including fan and lighting control through the included remote control, other installed controls, and smart controls via the HunterSMART™ app, as applicable.
If you currently use Google Home or Amazon Alexa through HunterSMART™ app account linking, that legacy connection will no longer work effective January 1, 2027.
Any smart controls via the Google Home and/or Alexa assistants and apps that rely on this legacy connection will no longer function, including fan smart controls, voice commands, scenes, and automations.
How Can I Continue Using Google Home or Alexa for Fan Controls?
If your fan is eligible for Matter compatibility, you will be able to continue using supported smart functionality within the Google Home and/or Alexa ecosystems after completing the applicable Matter migration and setup.
Once your HunterSMART™ fan is Matter-enabled, connecting your fan to Google Home and Alexa will work differently than it does today.
Instead of linking your HunterSMART™ account to Google Home or Alexa, you will need to set up your Matter-enabled fan directly in these compatible ecosystems using the Matter setup available through the Google Home and/or Alexa apps.
Matter-enabled devices do not use the legacy cloud-linking service for smart controls that is being discontinued.
We appreciate your understanding as we make this transition.
