A pop of color is an easy way to update your home decor style, whether you’re bored with your all white kitchen or want to give a monochromatic modern living room more Boho flair. You might automatically turn to painting the walls a bold color, but we have some easy design tips for how to add a pop of color in your room.
Bold pop of color
Bright colored rugs are an easy way to add color to any room. A colorful bohemian-print rug adds color to neutral kitchens and a touch of pattern in a space that doesn’t have much. Layer a colorful Southwestern pattern rug on your neutral jute rug for an easy pop of color in the living room.
We also love adding color in accent pieces like tableside lamps, throw blankets, and artwork. Add an ottoman that has an ombre color detail or storage basket that has colorful pom-poms on it. Take a farmhouse patio with lots of neutrals and swap out the black pendant light for a bold barn red farmhouse ceiling fan.
"Pseudo neutrals"
If you want to add a pop of color in your home without being overwhelming, try a “pseudo neutral” color. It's either a dark color or pale color that acts as a neutral but still adds intrigue to the room. Indigo, sage green, blush pink – they complement a variety of colors that are already in your home, making it an easy and colorful update.
Simply add some natural greenery or reupholster chairs in a navy color to complement white and grey furniture in your room. Swap out a white ceiling fan for a mint or blush one to add a little intrigue to your ceiling and room style.
Metallic accents
Start simple by adding small, metallic accents in your space. We even encourage mixing metallics: coppers with golds, nickels with pewters!
Add a copper side table lamp and candle holders to home offices. Instead of black chairs in modern industrial kitchens and dining rooms, paint them a metallic color like silver or copper. Swap out the cabinet pulls in your kitchen for a polished nickel or bright brass. Add a ceiling fan with matte brass detailing to pop against neutral finishes in living rooms and bedroom.
We also love how our Norden modern ceiling fan blends copper with blush for a unique tonal look. The new Satin Copper Hepburn is making a bold statement in rooms with with it's bold modern color.
Pattern play
Take a simple, all white room like your farmhouse kitchen or modern living room and add some patterned textiles to give it a more inviting and playful feel. Transform farmhouse and Scandinavian modern rooms by adding a bold Southwestern pattern ceiling fan to give them a global or Boho style. Keep it simple by adding light fixtures with stripes to give rustic rooms a coastal look.
You can even layer patterns: Just be sure that they incorporate a similar color palettes. Have outdoor pillows on the patio in a variety of patterns. Blend patterns across your living room – from the rug to the ceiling fan, the curtains to the decorative pillows.
Know that there are so many ways to add a pop of color to freshen up your home that go beyond painting the walls. There are easy ways to add color to your living rooms, kitchens, and other rooms in your home, from accent pillows to colorful ceiling fans.
