Senior Advanced Manufacturing Engineer

Position will be responsible for manufacturing process development and supporting new product introduction for all manufacturing locations. Expected to leverage experience and expertise to advise on manufacturing methods towards improving safety, quality, delivery, and cost metrics. Acts as the primary liaison between engineering and design groups and the manufacturing and process facilities. Communicates clearly with all levels and functions within the organization and looked to for clear decisions and guidance on a range of complex issues within manufacturing process and design.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Problem solving champion with demonstrated experience using multiple tools / methods to analyze root cause and lead problem solving teams to address issues within manufacturing or design
  • Leads root cause analysis efforts for organization with proposed solutions to address identified problems
  • Provide expertise and advice based on prior experience and a broad knowledge of product design with in-depth know-how of manufacturing and assembly techniques
  • Supports the development and use of all production and control related processes and documentation including APQP, Control Plans, Qualification Plans, Engineering Change, Deviations, Corrective and Preventative Actions, DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, FAI, DFMA, and SPC tools
  • Provides direction and benchmarking of industrial norms and new technology in manufacturing, methods, or materials advancing the products and processes used to make the company's products
  • Develop and optimize internal business practices, processes, and procedures to improve communication and workflow
  • Provide costing for design and advise on ways to improve design to meet cost targets
  • Lead process control efforts and assure supply base is capable of producing to manufacturing needs and expectations
  • Provide direction to others within the organization for manufacturing standards and process development
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement to products and processes
  • Communicates with manufacturing suppliers to understand and determine product design requirements and specifications
  • Coordinates with supply base to drive manufacturing advancements and controls to improve overall product quality and total costs
  • Collaborates with industrial design, engineering, purchasing and supply base to locate or develop new manufacturing processes or materials and ensure a smooth transition from new product concept through to production
  • Participate in Value Engineering activities including ideation, feasibility analysis, and execution
  • Other related duties as the needs of the business dictate

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering / other technical field
  • Advanced degree (MBA or MS) and technical certifications desired
  • >10 years' experience in engineering, advanced manufacturing, and/or operations with strong experience in machining, casting/molding, stamping/forming, painting/plating, and tool design
  • >5 years' experience leading projects or teams
  • Experience working with and implementing principles of Lean Manufacturing
  • Six Sigma experience or certification is desirable

Special qualifications or skills

  • Experienced Project Manager used to leading, communicating with, and presenting to all levels cross-functionally
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Proven ability to drive manufacturing advancements and controls to improve overall quality and total costs
  • Highly organized and capable of balancing multiple and competing priorities and projects for both the individual and working team without direction from higher management
  • Can function and communicate as a member of a cross-functional working team handling a variety of problems or issues
  • Proven change management skills to drive change and embed improvements into an organization
  • Highly developed influencing skills and able to effectively deliver cross-functional solutions
  • Capable of training others of varying skill or background in essentials of job function and manufacturing engineering principles
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to transform them into action plans
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (including MS Project)
  • Must be dedicated, pay attention to detail, and possess excellent problem solving and organizational skills
  • Comfortable working alone and/or in a team environment
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (<20%)
