CPSC, Hunter Fan Company Announce Recall of Humidifiers

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), Hunter Fan Company is voluntarily recalling approximately 100,000 CareFreeÆ Humidifier and CareFreeÆ Humidifierplus evaporative humidifiers. The motors in these humidifiers can overheat, posing a fire hazard.

Hunter has received nine reports of the humidifiersí motors overheating, including one incident involving minor property damage. No injuries have been reported. The recalled humidifiers are:

The units being recalled were manufactured since June 2000. Model 32500 is light beige plastic with a dark beige base, a dark beige top vent, and a tinted water tank. Models 33300, 33330, and 33350 are light gray plastic with a dark gray base, a dark gray top vent, and a tinted water tank

Consumers can determine if their humidifier is recalled by checking a label located on the back of the main housing. The model number is printed on the label. In addition, consumers must check the date code stamped onto the label. The date code is a 5-digit number; the first 3 digits indicate the day of year, and the last 2 digits indicate year. The recalled humidifiers have the following date codes:*

• Recalled units manufactured June 2000 through December 2000 have date codes between 15200 and 36500.*
• Recalled units manufactured January 2001 through December 2001 have date codes between 00101 and 36501.*
• Recalled units manufactured January 2002 through February 2002 have date codes between 00102 and 06002.

Only humidifiers with the model numbers and date codes listed above are being recalled.

These humidifiers were sold through discount stores, wholesale clubs, hardware stores, lighting stores, home centers, in catalogs and on web sites from August 2000 through February 2002 for between $50 and $120.

Consumers should stop using these humidifiers and unplug them immediately. Call Hunter toll-free at (800) 207-5982 anytime to arrange for a free replacement part or refund, and for additional instructions.
