    Only lasted 2 years

Just had this $25 switch break at the two year mark. The light switch won't snap into the off position, leaving the light on. There's a reason the warranty is only for one year! Time to get a $10 switch that will last for the life of the home.

    Good Switch, Poor Knobs

This product works well. In a single device you can select fan speed, and dim the light without having to touch the pull chains. We installed 4 in our house a couple of years ago and they're still working fine. However, the little knobs on the ends of the control levers have now broken off most of the switches making it difficult to use the switch, and driving my wife crazy. If you buy the switch, hunt for a lot of the replacement knos.

    knobs too brittle

My 5 year old niece came to visit for a week and loved to turn the switches on and off repeatedly. By the end of the week, all of them in the house had broken knobs. These are too brittle if they happen that easily.

    Good but controls break easily

Have 5 of these. They work, but the nobs on every single on of them (5 of 5) broke at or before year of use. At $25 bucks each, that's quite a bit to have it break after a year. It works, but I wouldn't recommend getting it.

    Useless knobs

We have three of these in our house and all of the knobs broke off after about a month or so. I called Hunter to see what they could do, they sent me the replacement caps for the knobs. The knob caps were not the problem, its the stems they mount on are badly designed. I am now in the process of replacing all the switches.

    Handle with care...

Would be a great, basic fan/light control, if not for how fragile the slider switches are. They made entirely of plastic, and mark my words, they will eventually break off. Once that happens, you have to replace the entire control. I have three fans, and had to replace all three controls shortly after the 1-year warranty ran out. Hunter was good enough to honor the warranty. The second set of controls were of better quality, but now 3 years after replacement, another switch broke off right at the base of the stem. 3 years is not a long time, in my opinion. My toddler should be in college before I should have to replace these things.

    switch plate plastic knobs

I have these in every room and the plastic pieces continually crack and break and then you cannot put them back. Look good when you buy them but they crack and break. I would never reccom mend this switch.

    Do NOT buy this dimmer!

DO NOT BUY THIS DIMMER. IT IS JUNK. I HAVE TWO OF THEM THAT DIDN'T EVEN LAST TWO YEARS. THE SLIDER ARMS ARE UNDERBUILT, AND THE PLASTIC BUTTON ENDS ARE HARD PLASTIC. EITHER THE SLIDER ARM BREAKS OFF OR THE KNOB END SPLITS INTO LITTLE PIECES. THE DETENT FOR THE OFF POSITION ON THE LAMP IS TOO STIFF, WHICH MAKES THE ARMS/KNOBS BREAK FASTER. THE DETENT GETS HARDER AS TIME GOES ON. ONE OF MINE CANNOT EVEN BE TURNED OFF, EVEN AFTER SPRAYING ELECTRONIC LUBRICANT IN IT.

27182 - all buttons came off

I have about 20 of these devices thru out my home and over the course of 5 years every one of them is missing the kobs because they cracked and will not stay on. Terrible design.... i wish they would replace the little plastic knobs but no luck.

    Terrible Product

I think this is the most poorly-designed product I have ever purchased. I have five of these controls in my home and the "knobs" on the control shafts break repeatedly. Also, the shafts themselves break. When the shaft breaks and will no longer hold the 'knob', I use epoxy to prolong the life. Hunter has been good about supplying replacement 'knobs', but will not replace the control. My advice is to purchase a better-engineered product.

    Love the switch...Need more colors

I love this switch. We have a few in the house and have not had any problems with them. I just wish Hunter had them available in other colors.

    Switch fails

I has this Hunter switch for little over a year. The light dimmer stopped working. The little knobs on slider comes out in few months. Many manufacturer make similar switch and they have same problem with little knob. Frankly this is a design that has statyed in market for much longer than it desereved. I would not recommend this type of switch.

Yes, knobs attached to sliders break easily

Are there replacement knobs - or do I have to replace the entire unit (with another brand with knobs that break easily)?

    Disappointed with durabilty

i installed five Hunter ceiling fans in April 2007. The fans are great, the controllers however are a major disappointment. Each of the five dual controllers has at least one vertical arm broken. As a result, the arms will no longer hold onto the knobs to adjust the dimmer light or fan speed. My kids aren't even tall enough to reach them yet so I can't even blame them.

    Great Switch - Cheap Parts

These switches work great, but the plastic knobs and sliders break easily. Hunter should use metal sliders and sell replacement knobs. Until then, buyer beware.

    switch knobs design flaw

textbook classic plastic-part design flaw ... the knobs on the sliders press into a slit in the protruding plastic slider forcing the sides apart so that friction holds the knobs on, but the result is also a stress concentration that fractures the plastic. (After-market) remedy: After buying a new switch, pop off the knobs and drill a tiny stress-relief hole at the root of the slit. Press the knobs back into the slit. Are you listening Hunter? Change your design.

    Buy somthing else

This unit was purchased for 3 rooms in my new home. Almost immediatly the knobs broke or fell off on all of them. These failures have two serious side affects...First, the small plastic pieces are easily consumed by pets and small children, a choking hazard for sure. The other effect is that the switch is nearly imposible to use with only "nubs" remaining to manipulate. Really, a light switch should last nearly forever, not a month or two.

    great control except...

the little knobs that attached to the sliders break easily. Have two of these switches and 3 of the 4 knobs have broken off leaving a little nub sticking out that you have to use to turn the light on/off.

    switch tabs/handles

I have installed over 30 Hunter fans with the Model #27182 switch control. To date, about 14 of the switches/ controllers have lost or broken the slide tabs/handles on the sliding mechanism. They are just a push on piece of rubber/plastic that does not last. Where can i get replacement tabs/ slide handles for this model???

I have many of these controllers. The small knobs have broken on three of them so far. Although the unit itself functions fine, the knobs are way too fragile for something that costs what it does!
