Quality is our heritage and our promise—or we wouldn’t put the Hunter name on the box.

Truth be told, quality is more than a tradition at Hunter. It’s been the steadfast foundation of our company for nearly 130 years, and we don’t see ourselves changing our stance anytime soon—at least not in the next 130 years.

Sure, we could use less costly materials. We could cut a few corners by engineering less, designing less and lowering our standards on craftsmanship. But then our ceiling fans wouldn’t transform how you feel in your living space—and we wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.

So how does “quality” happen at Hunter? It starts with collaboration. From prototyping through compliance, our engineers, designers and R&D technicians work together to develop and test the latest ideas and technologies. (You might see someone from our design team experimenting with a new color in the paint booth, while a technician sets up some blade irons for the ride of their life via the “shake test.” This is just a typical day at Hunter.) Quality assurance is serious business, but our test technicians do get to have some fun in the R&D lab, subjecting our fans to a host of test procedures.

Surpassing industry standards

While agency standards call for a stringent test protocol, we go above and beyond these regulatory requirements by self-imposing a more rigorous test protocol. In some cases, we’ve even established our own standards for fan characteristics that have no industry requirement yet. At various stations throughout the lab, the following are just a few of the tests constantly underway:

Humidity, UV and water contact

Salt water submersion, UV exposure, water pressure and more are just a few of the ways we test all of our blades and components for overall quality and various UL listings.





 

Noise levels

Did you know there’s no rating or requirement for ceiling fan noise levels? That didn’t sound right to us, so we developed our soundproof noise room, where we make sure our fans are as whisper-quiet as we promise they’ll be.

Blade irons

We also promise wobble-free performance, so we invented the rigorous blade iron “shake test,” which puts the blade irons through thousands of shake cycles. (It’s pretty technical, but it’d be the rough equivalent to riding a mechanical bull on high speed—for what feels like an eternity.)

Temperature

With our temperature rise tests, we’re making sure that all the electrical components of your fan surpass agency requirements. Proper insulation systems and more increase motor longevity by keeping the fan from exceeding maximum allowable operating temperatures—which is why you can always count on a lifetime of safe, reliable operation from a Hunter.

CFM

We talk about this rating a lot (cubic feet per minute), but that’s because airflow is important—that’s why we invented the CFM calculation system in the first place so many years ago. But that doesn’t mean we’re resting on our laurels—we’re still challenging ourselves to find ways to perfect air movement. Just rest assured that with a Hunter, you have the most effective and efficient ceiling fan on the market.
